Burris Refused Senate Seat On Capitol Arrival (VIDEO)

This is such a no-win situation for the Democrats. If they seat him, they risk the possibility that Burris paid Blagojevich for his seat, and the repercussions of that fact. If they don't seat him, and it turns out he has done nothing wrong except be appointed by a man accused of trying to sell that very seat, it looks like they're punishing the wrong guy for Blagojevich's indiscretions.

I'm starting to get the feeling these next 8 years aren't going to be all that much different from the last 8.

  1. I think they should hold his seat until a thorough investigation is completed. I know that is unprecedented, but this is an unprecedented situation. What makes you think that the next four years won't be any different?

  2. I think it's just my cynicism against politics in general. Sure, Obama is an amazing man, but beneath all that rhetoric and seeming invincibility beats the heart of just another politician. I'm hoping he'll prove me wrong.

  3. I gotta say I see this situation differently. Whether he paid for the seat or not is of no importance. Because Blagojevich committed a federal crime (disputedly) they're saying he has no right to appoint anyone to this seat. In all likelihood, Blagojevich is trying to smooth things over by picking the right guy for the job. But if they had allowed that, we'd have to accept that Chicago politics will always be corrupt except in when noticed.

  4. And I though politics in Massachusetts were bad.
