Limbaugh Congratulates Himself On Kennedy Death Prediction

What happened to the Republican party that gave us Lincoln and Eisenhower?

For that matter, what happened to principled, intellectually honest conservatives whose beliefs were genuine instead of being the result of having to capitulate to a cadre of hillbilly fundamentalists? The left (of which I consider myself a proud member) needs an active and vibrant conservative party to temper it. Unfortunately, what we have now is this reactionary, intellectually bereft party that somehow believes that by appealing to a base that is shrinking by the minute, they will somehow regain their control over this country. I'd trade in one Glenn Beck for one William F. Buckley Jr, or one O'Reilly for one Barry Goldwater. While ideologically, I disagreed with both of these men, their beliefs grew out of their sincere dedication to making this country a better place, even if their means to that end differed from mine. The self-serving, moralistic conservative party of today will be gone in 5-10 years if things continue the way they are. Maybe this means the rise of a REAL progressive party in this country to counteract the centrism of the modern Democratic Party, with the Right Wing relegated to the status of an historical curiosity.

  1. Might I suggest you read the online book, Crossing Swords: William F. Buckley Jr. and the American Left on intellectualconservative.com. You might find it of great interest if you are truly interested in a thoughtful look at how Bill debated issues. I do agree that some conservatives are getting a bit reactionary these days, but then they learned it from the left.
